d&b audiotechnik has been developing, manufacturing and distributing loudspeaker systems since 1981. The company operates internationally in the field of electro acoustics to produce high quality products for reinforcement of speech and music. Through the amalgamation of technological developments, system integration principals, quality of construction and standards of service, d&b right from the outset realized a concept that includes all aspects of design, development, manufacture and support: the d&b System reality. d&b's loudspeakers are used globally in rental and installation markets for events, multimedia, musicals, concert halls, theatres, opera houses, broadcast and everything from the smallest conference room to the largest stadium.
d&b Loudspeakers
T Series
The T-Series is intentionally designed to address an extremely wide range of small to medium sized applications from multiple cabinet line arrays through to single standalone loudspeakers for deployment in locations sharing the same fundamental requirements, to achieve precise control of directivity and maintain this to the lowest possible frequency. A combination of techniques is used; dipolar low frequency driver arrangements, low compression venting with high excursion drivers and a unique combination of a rotatable waveguide horn and acoustic lens. The unobtrusive visual design, compact dimensions, light weight, high power and exemplary directivity performance not only embodies the d&b System reality but makes the T-Series loudspeakers the perfect option for speech and music.
The T10 is a passive 2-way loudspeaker housing two 6.5" drivers positioned in a dipolar arrangement and a 1.4" HF compression driver and a passive crossover network. The T10 can be used both as a line array and as a high directivity point source loudspeaker. The HF driver is fitted to a unique waveguide horn producing vertical line source directivity with a 90° horizontal pattern that is maintained down to approximately 600 Hz.
An acoustic lens placed in front of the horn widens horizontal to this produces an accurate point source dispersion transforming a vertically oriented T10 into a standalone full range loudspeaker with 90° horizontal and 35° vertical directivity pattern. The T10 cabinet is constructed from polyurethane integral hard foam, incorporates integrated line array rigging hardware and has an impact resistant finish. The front of the loudspeaker cabinet is protected by a rigid metal grill backed by an acoustically transparent foam, and two EP5 or NL4 connectors wired in parallel are mounted on the rear panel.
The T-SUB is an actively driven bass-reflex loudspeaker fitted with a high excursion 15" driver. d&b SenseDrive technology is available when powered by the D12 amplifier. It can be used to supplement the LF headroom of the T10 loudspeaker in various combinations, ground stacked or flown, either integrated on top of a T10 array or as a separate column. The loudspeakers are mechanically connected using rigging links on both sides of the cabinet front which slide out when needed, and with a central splay link at the rear of the cabinet. The T-SUB cabinet is constructed from marine plywood with an impact resistant paint finish and a handle in the top panel.

J Series
The high output J-Series reaches into large-scale sound reinforcement situations, extending further the spectrum of applications d&b systems embrace. The transparent and detailed audio performance with extraordinarily smooth and even frequency response, dynamic bandwidth, extreme high power and headroom capabilities, makes the J-Series the ultimate choice for the far-reaching reinforcement of any sound genre. The J-Series consists of the J8 and J12 loudspeakers and the J-SUB cardioid subwoofer that are acoustically matched and constructed to be mechanically compatible both in flown or ground-stacked arrays. The high fidelity J-Series, pushing all the boundaries of the d&b maxim; to maintain the compatibility and sound character throughout all systems enabling them to be effortlessly combined.
The J8 is a 3-way design housing 2 x 12" LF drivers, one horn loaded 10" MF driver and two 1.4" exit HF compression drivers with 3" voice coils mounted to a dedicated wave-shaping device. The mechanical and acoustical design enables flown vertical columns of up to twenty-four loudspeakers to be suspended using vertical splay angles between them of 0° to 7° with a 1° resolution. The cylindrical wave segments produced couple coherently in the vertical plane. Due to the dipolar arrangement of the neodymium LF drivers the exceptional 80° horizontal constant directivity dispersion control is nominally maintained down to 250 Hz. The J8 is acoustically and mechanically compatible with the J12 loudspeaker. It can be used in columns of purely J8 loudspeakers or combined with J12s and/or with J-SUBs.
The J-SUB is an actively driven 2-way bass-reflex design housing three long excursion neodymium 18" drivers, two drivers face to the front and one driver to the rear. The cardioid dispersion pattern resulting from this approach avoids unwanted energy behind the system that greatly reduces the reverberant field at low frequencies and provides the greatest accuracy of low frequency reproduction. J-SUB cabinets can be used to supplement J8 and J12 loudspeakers in various combinations, ground stacked or flown, either integrated on top of a J8 / J12 array or as a separate column.
The J-INFRA is a cardioid infra subwoofer that can be used to supplement J-Series systems consisting of J8, J12 and J-SUB cabinets. It extends the frequency response of a J-Series system down to 27 Hz and can only be used in ground stacked configurations in conventional left/right setups as well as arranged in an infra subwoofer array. It has two bass reflex chambers containing three 21" drivers, two facing forward in one
chamber that are driven from a channel of the D12 amplifier and one facing backwards driven by the other D12 channel. Through this driver setup its cardioid dispersion pattern avoids unwanted energy behind the system and greatly reduces the reverberant field at low frequencies providing highest accuracy in low frequency reproduction. Selecting Hypercardioid mode in the D12 optimizes the tuning of front and rear channels for a maximum rejection at the left and right sides behind the cabinet.
Q Series
The Q-Series continues the established d&b audiotechnik approach to the design and manufacture of loudspeaker systems. It is designed for a wide range of small to medium scale applications and a clear perspective to provide flexible, configurable array solutions to the most arduous sound reinforcement situations. They are ideal for situations using numerous open microphones and where considerable gain before feedback is required for speech and music; in theatre, presentations, broadcast productions and orchestral events.
The Q-Series has a range of designed rigging to allow quick and simple deployment in all the intended applications, whether ground supported or flown. The Q1, Q7 & Q10 loudspeaker cabinets are desi gned to be totally mechanically compatible, sharing the same size, shape, rigging and driver compliment.
The Q-Sub cabinet completes the series sharing the same width as the other three loudspeakers and has compatible flying fittings enabling its use at the top of columns with other Q-Series loudspeakers. The Q-Sub can also be combined to produce a Cardioid Subwoofer Array performance by selecting the CSA mode in the D12. The D12 & D6 amplifiers both contain the loudspeaker specific controller configurations for all the Q-Series loudspeakers and provide the necessary amplification.
C Series
The C4 system represents an advanced, compact and efficient sound reinforcement concept. It has been specifically optimized for array configurations and high sound pressure levels. Applications range from professional touring industry use and large scale sound system installations, down to a single box set up requiring narrow dispersion over a wide frequency range with minimum dimensions. The sound of the C4 system provides the engineer with an efficient tool and a neutral platform allowing him to create his specific sound with minimal effort. A system comprises the loudspeakers and their matching D12 or D6 Amplifiers.
The C7 system has been specifically optimized for small and medium sized configurations with high SPL capabilities. Applications range from touring and production use to installations where medium to long throw and controlled dispersion over a wide frequency range is required. This is achieved through meticulous care in developing the individual components, together with d&b's unique design approach, based on a holistic view of the interaction between loudspeaker and electronics. This approach results in a system with far greater linearity than would otherwise be achievable. All C7 cabinets can be powered by both the D12 amplifier or by the D6 power amplifier controller.
E Series
High output and performance levels, ultra compact design and a choice of formats ensure that the d&b E-Series has the answers for a wide variety of production requirements. Visually discreet and easy to operate, the E-Series offers elegant solutions for speech reinforcement with high intelligibility, as well as music reinforcement with or without subwoofers. A huge range of fittings and accessories form part of the system, resulting in exceptional rigging versatility.
The E0, d&b's smallest loudspeaker, produces superlative sound and tremendous output for small, near field, delay and surround sound situations, and with the addition of a subwoofer it can be used for music playback. With a frequency response that covers the 80 Hz to 20 kHz band and a 100° conical dispersion, the E0 will display identical directivity whether deployed horizontally or vertically. Incorporated into the cleverly shaped black or white polyamide cabinet is a self-locking ball joint with integrated mounting arm, magnetic shielding of the LF driver and either a quad push or two NL4 connectors.
The E3 is an extremely small and versatile high performance system with astonishing sound and excellent headroom. The horn, which may be rotated to give either 90° x 60° or 60° x 90° coverage, has the necessary flexibility in directivity enabling a variety of applications such as delay, infill or distributed sound reinforcement applications. In addition, it can be used as an extremely compact stage monitor. Together with a subwoofer system the E3 is also capable of reproducing live or playback music at continuously high SPLs.
The E8 is a high performance two-way multipurpose loudspeaker employing an integrated coaxial driver. The E8 can be used for speech and music applications as a stand-alone full range system, or incorporated into larger distributed sound reinforcement situations; d&b subwoofers may also be used to increase system bandwidth. The multi faceted shape of the enclosure allows use either in an upright or horizontal orientation as well as deployment as a stage monitor. The 90° x 50° dispersion pattern (h x v) of the horn is easily rotatable through 90° to provide a 50° x 90° dispersion pattern. The E8 cabinet is constructed from polyurethane integral hard foam with an impact resistant paint finish incorporating handle and a socket to accept loudspeaker stands.
The E12X-SUB is a compact, light weight, high performance subwoofer for use with d&b E-Series loudspeakers. The built in passive crossover network allows the E12X-SUB to be operated in parallel to the E8 loudspeaker on the same amplifier channel, greatly extending the low frequency headroom and bandwidth of the systems. Alternatively it can be operated actively driven by its own amplifier channel without the need for any changes to the subwoofer. In active mode the E12X-SUB can be used to supplement any of the E-Series cabinets.
The E12 and E12-D are high performance two-way multipurpose loudspeakers employing an integrated coaxial driver. The E12 and E12D can be used for speech and music applications as stand-alone full range systems or incorporated into larger distributed sound reinforcement situations and with the addition of an E15X subwoofer can also easily reproduce high level music program. The multi faceted shape of the enclosure allows use either in an upright or horizontal orientation as well as deployment as a stage monitor. The E12 has an 80° x 50° dispersion pattern (h x v), while the E12-D has a wider 110° x 50° pattern. The horns in both loudspeakers are easily rotatable through 90° providing 50° x 80° or 50° x 110° dispersion patterns. The E12 and E12-D cabinet is constructed from polyurethane integral hard foam with an impact resistant paint finish incorporating handles and a hidden socket to accept loudspeaker stands. The E15X-SUB is a compact, light weight, high performance subwoofer for use with d&b E-Series loudspeakers. The built in passive crossover network allows the E15X-SUB to be operated in parallel to E12 or E12-D loudspeakers on the same amplifier channel, greatly extending the low frequency headroom and bandwidth of the systems. Alternatively it can be operated actively driven by its own amplifier channel without the need for any changes to the subwoofer. In active mode the E15X-SUB can be used to supplement any of the E-Series cabinets.
The B4-SUB is an actively driven cardioid subwoofer powered by a single amplifier channel. It houses two long excursion neodymium drivers in an integrated cardioid setup: a 15" driver in a bass-reflex design facing to the front and a 12" driver in a two chamber bandpass design radiating to the rear. The cardioid dispersion pattern resulting from this approach avoids unwanted energy behind the system that greatly reduces the reverberant field at low frequencies and provides the greatest accuracy of low frequency reproduction. The B4 subwoofer can only be used in a ground stacked setup. The B4-SUB cabinet is constructed from marine plywood, has an impact and weather resistant paint finish and a pair of handles. An M20 threaded flange in the top panel accepts the d&b Loudspeaker stand winder M20. The loudspeaker cabinet is also available in Special Colour (SC) options.
Monitors
The M4 is a 2-way high performance stage monitor that produces 138 dB SPL when driven passively or 140 dB SPL when driven by the D12 amplifier in active mode. The constant directivity dispersion of 50° x 70° (h x v) delivers an accurately defined coverage area on stage and when used upright it is transformed into a powerful PA system with dispersion suitable for a variety of applications.
With monitoring, even small irregularities in performance or consistency can have problematic consequences for the artist and the success of a production. That is why d&b has always maintained, there should be no difference in sound quality between the front of house system and the monitor system. The actively crossed over M2 can only be driven by the more powerful dual channel D12.
The Max & Max 12 are passively crossed over and may be optionally used in a 2-way active mode to increase headroom, particularly in the HF range.
The M6 is a 2-way high performance stage monitor that produces 132 / 135 dB SPL when driven passively with the D6 / D12 respectively or 138 dB SPL when driven actively with the D12. The constant directivity dispersion of 50° x 80° (h x v) delivers an accurately defined coverage area on stage and when used upright it is transformed into a powerful PA system with dispersion suitable for a variety of applications. It has two M10 threaded inserts on each side panel to enable quick and flexible rigging and a socket to accept loudspeaker stands. Two runners recessed in the bottom panel protect the cabinet from scratching and prevent movement. The M6 can be driven passively either by d&b's D6 or D12 dual channel power amplifiers configured for the M6 or actively by the D12 switched to 2-way Active mode.
Amplifiers
Positioned at the very heart of the d&b System reality, the D6 and D12 amplifiers not only power, they comprehensively control d&b's loudspeakers by using Digital Signal Processing (DSP) to provide loudspeaker configurations, functions and sophisticated protection. Both channels of the D6 and D12 have user definable 4-band parametric equalization and delay capabilities, while d&b Load monitoring and System check are incorporated to monitor driver condition.
The amplifiers are equipped with analog and AES/EBU digital signal inputs with digital elements specified and constructed to achieve audio performance meeting, or exceeding, that of analogue devices. This comprehensive functionality of d&b's amplifiers can also be accessed via d&b's R1 Remote network.
